The battle for the Aegis of Champions has once again concluded with Tundra Esports rising to the top
in a dominant display of Dota 2
that has now immortalized their names as bearers of the ultimate symbol of victory.
But just because The International 2022 is over doesn’t mean the influence of the Ancients has ceased. Now, teams from around the world are pouring over the last year of Dota
, building out their strategies, and forming new allegiances before heeding the call to battle once more.
Every year, The International acts as the end and beginning of each year of competitive Dota 2
, giving players and teams a marker to measure their success and whether any partnerships are worth continuing or not based on a number of metrics.
If a team doesn’t make it to TI in any given season, it is almost a guarantee changes are coming and that roster won’t be back in the same form competing together at the start of the next year. Most organizations and players wait until after TI each year to make their big changes too since most of the big impact players will be competing at the event and, depending on the outcome, some of them might become available.
With the implementation of a more strict Dota
Pro Circuit and regional leagues over the last few years, it has become harder to change rosters after the initial post-TI shuffle due to limitations. So for teams like Evil Geniuses, T1, and more who are expected to make big changes post-TI11, this is their one shot to really build out a roster that can help them compete at the highest level.
Heading into the 2022-2023 Dota
Pro Circuit, here are all of the official roster moves, signings, and transfers that will shape the competitive scene ahead of TI12.

Tour 2 & 3 (Spring & Summer)

- Double-elimination without Grand Finals
Regional Leagues are divided into 6 regions. The regions are: North America (NA), South America (SA), Western Europe (WEU), Eastern Europe (EEU), China (CN) and Southeast Asia (SEA). Each of the Regional Leagues is divided into 2 divisions (Division I and Division II) of eight teams each (16 each region, 96 in total across all regions).
Each Regional League tournament has a total prize pool of $280,000 USD
. The prize pool is split among both Divisions ($205,000 USD
in Division I, $75,000 USD
in Division II). The earlier Regional League grant less points than the later ones (690/920/1150 DPC points).
The teams with top placement in each region’s Division I compete in a Major. Each region is guaranteed a minimum of at least 2 slots for teams to fill. However, some Regions are allocated more slots. Majors have a prize pool of $500,000 USD
, the earlier Majors grant fewer points than the later ones (1900/2700/3500 DPC points).

As in previous season, roster locks
are implemented from the start of each Regional League until the end. Rosters will unlock at the conclusion of the Regional League portion of each Tour. The initial roster lock
for the 2023 season happens at 11:59am PT on December 9th, 2022. For subsequent Tours
, player removals will lock at 11:59am PT on Tuesday after the Major, though players will still be allowed to be added to incomplete teams until 11:59am PT on Sunday after the Major.
Any player removals
will incur a 20% penalty to all DPC Points
earned at the time of removal (including the points to be earned in the League currently being played). A team that removes a player after securing a slot at a Major will incur a 20% penalty on DPC Points earned during that event, in addition to the normal player-removal penalty. Any partial DPC points will be rounded down for each individual event. There is no penalty for adding
a new player.
A substitute
may be used for 4 out of the 7 matches in the Regional League.
A team that plays 5 or more Regional League matches with a substitute will be disqualified and any remaining games will be forfeited. If a team does not play a Regional League match, that match is forfeited. A team that forfeits 2 or more matches in a season will be automatically removed from the rest of the competition and all their opponents from previous and subsequent games will get a default win. Any team that competes in a Major tournament with a substitute will incur a 40% penalty per substitute
(up to 2 substitutes) on DPC Points earned from that tournament. If more than 2 substitutes are required for a team, that team will be considered forfeited.
As in previous season, teams from the same organization can play in the same Regional League but only one team from an organization can qualify for The International. If two teams from the same organization qualify for The International, that organization must either remove all of their ties to one of the teams, or only the top team will be eligible.
At the end of the third tour, the top twelve teams by DPC points are directly qualified for The International 2023
. Six remaining spots will be decided through regional qualifiers. All teams that participated in the third tour of the regional leagues are eligible to compete in the regional qualifiers provided that they do not replace more than two players from their third tour’s roster. As in previous season, there will not be any Open Qualifier for The International. However, all Regional Leagues will have an Open Qualifier tournament for their Division II spots meaning that the third tour’s open qualifiers will essentially act as TI Open Qualifiers.
Old G + Aramis sign under PuckChamp in DPC
TSM part ways with Dubu
Old G might return with a new roster
The familiar faces on Old G might make a return for Tour 2 qualifiers. The team — comprising TI champions trio — last competed in Tour 1 WEU qualifiers but failed in their final step. A Monkey Business Show (MBS) podcast
recently hinted at N0tail taking a break and Ceb continuing with the team, but there is no confirmation as of late.
Rumors
have it that Resolution will leave Team Secret to play pos 3 in Old G. There are also rumors about Ceb transitioning to pos 4.
SG Esports parts ways with roster
Speaking of South America, SG esports has also parted ways with its Dota 2 roster as their contracts have come to an end. Dota 2 pro contracts usually last till the end of TI which is when the annual post-TI roster shuffle takes place. The SG epsorts players are now on the lookout for a new org.
Despite promising performances in the DPC South Americas Tour, SG esports failed to qualify for TI11, which is the ultimate goal for many players. However, as a roster, the squad has displayed immense potential finishing 2nd in the BTS Pro Series Americas amongst other notable results.

Betboom part ways with Dota 2 roster
Betboom have announced they are parting ways with their Dota 2 roster. The announcement comes after a poor performance at TI11, which was well below expectations from the team.
The statement also mentions Betboom will field another Dota 2 roster which basically confirms their involvement in Dota 2 esports.
Talon pick up Jabz after Fnatic departure
Jabz parted ways with Fnatic after his contract expired with the SEA team. Soon after, Talon esports announced his addition to the roster, bolstering their Dota 2 squad for the upcoming season.
PSG. L GD changes offlaner
Interestingly, PSG. LGD opted to change its offlaner. The team had a great run during the first CN DPC season, grabbing first place ahead of Team Aster. However, PSG. LGD faced an unfortunate incident when the team couldn’t come to the Lima Major in full formula. Its then-offlaner, Li «项羽» Longwu, had VISA issues and were replaced by Ren «old eLeVeN» Yangwei. After a disappointing performance at the Major, PSG. LGD swapped its offlaner with Malaysian player, Nicholas «zeal» Lim.
IceIceIce out of SMG
The face that was all over the place at TI11 now finds himself in search for a new team. Daryl «iceiceice» Koh is no longer part of Team SMG. He joined the team in August after parting ways with Team Secret, however, as is the case with the Dota 2 calendar year, he has not played a lot of games with the team.
Why you ask? Well, firstly, the team failed to register for the TI11 qualifiers. The SEA based org’s failure to register for the qualifiers meant they ended up not able to even attend the qualifiers. The org had also provided a statement apologizing for their actions (or rather, lack of it).
Team Secret announce BOOM
With Nisha’s departure, there was a gap to fill for Team Secret and they have chosen BOOM to join their ranks for the upcoming season. Miroslav «BOOM» Bičan last competed for Gaimin Gladiators and has been crucial in Gaimin Gladiator’s success in the past.
Team Aster
, Tundra esports
, Team Secret and Team Liquid made it to the top four. Tundra Esports won the event after a dominating playoffs run including a 3-0 victory over Team Secret in the Grand finals. The TI11 playoffs
saw some quality Dota 2 action with thousands of fans in attendance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Esports.gg had exclusive coverage at TI11
. The tournament is also the final time Dota 2 fans will see some iconic players in attendance, including Somnus
, Faith_bian
and Matumbaman
.
Knights renamed and disbanded
Knights crashed and burned at the Lima Major, finishing last with a disappointing performance. According to the Dota 2 Major registration page
, the team has been renamed to Antarctic Penguins and all players have been removed.
March, Xepher and Kuku leave org
Legendary org, T1 esports failed to qualify for TI11 via the Last Chance qualifier. The team finished 5-6th — well short of the top 2 required to play at TI.
T1 esports added the legendary Ana to their Dota 2 roster in preparation for TI11. But after their failure to qualify, the team has already started unveiling changes. March will be parting ways with the team. A major reason for Ana joining the roster was March. The coach’s departure is sure to set things in motion in the org.

Besides March, Xepher
, the position 4 player for the org has also announced he is looking for a new team for the upcoming season.
Tims looking for team for upcoming season
BOOM esports support player Timothy «TIMS» Randrup is looking for a new org for the upcoming season. As is the case with most Dota 2 pros, his contract with the SEA org is coming to an end post-TI and he is on the lookout for a new team.
With Tims, BOOM esports won the Gamers Galaxy Thailand event. The team also finished first in DPC Tour 1 and 3, with a second place finish in Tour 2. D PC Tour 2 saw Fnatic finish first.

What’s next for EG? There are reports of EG picking up the former Thunder Predator roster. This news has not been confirmed as of November 15, 2022. E G CEO, hinted at the impact South American Dota 2
has on the scene. But she has not yet announced any signings yet.

Nigma Galaxy parts ways with ATF
Alongside SumaiL, Nigma Galaxy will also head into the next Tour without its young player, Ammar «ATF» Al-Assaf. The Jordanian has yet to sign with another team. Nigma Galaxy also has to find two players to fill in the vacant spots.
Soniqs releases Dota 2 roster
Soniqs entered the Dota 2 scene by signing the Quincy Crew roster — one of the best North America has to offer. The org helped the players through TI with bootcamp and providing them additional facilities. However, Soniqs did not perform well at TI11
, finishing 17-18th, eliminated in the group stage itself.
This has been the formula for many esports orgs in Dota 2, where they pick up a roster just before TI to represent them on the grandest stage of them all. However, if the org does not perform well at TI, the contracts run out and orgs have been known to drop their rosters soon after. The Dota 2 esports scene in North America is at a dangerous precipice with EG also looking to field a South American roster for next year — reports suggest they might pick up the Thunder Awaken squad.
