The patch notes for Dota 2 update 7.35d have been released and they bring some very interesting changes to hero bans and matchmaking. But that hasn’t stopped fans from being annoyed at the size of the patch, as many were expecting the promised Crownfall patch to launch this week. Instead, it has been pushed back to mid-April.
The 7.35d patch notes bring two big changes to systems in Dota 2 and both should have big impacts on the overall quality of your matchmaking games. The first is that hero bans in most modes, including All Pick, have been removed. Instead, you can select four heroes to be a part of your ban pool for every match, and at least one of these heroes will be banned in every game you play.
This is a change to try and combat the cheats that have become prominent in recent months in Dota. These cheats would show an enemy your most played heroes, giving them a chance to ban them knowing that you were likely to pick them. Now, with no bans in the most common modes, they won’t be able to do this, which should help players with smaller hero pools.
The other big change comes in the form of a new Dota Labs feature that shows you a number of factors the match-making algorithm took into account when finding the match. The information shows the skill range of players in the game, the ping you have to the server, and the behaviour score of the players involved. If you don’t like what you see, you can decline the match without a penalty, so if the behavior score looks a bit below what you would hope for, you can dodge the game without repercussions.
Of course, the 7.35d patch notes also bring with them a fair few balance changes. Heroes that have dominated top-level play in recent months such as Chen have been nerfed, while some others have been buffed. None of the changes are massive, and certainly not on the scale many were hoping, but it should freshen up Dota for a few weeks while we wait for the next patch.
Some items have also been changed, with the Divine Rapier getting perhaps the biggest change in its history. Now it provides a base +100 damage and has a toggleable ability that will give you either an extra 250 damage or +25% spell amplification.
Of course, the most controversial patch of the patch came at the end of the blog post, when Valve announced that the highly anticipated Crownfall update would not launch until mid-April. With many fans expecting the Crownfall update to arrive this week, it is certainly a blow to many who were hoping to see a massive, game-changing, update and the release of new hero Ringmaster. But at least now we have a better idea of when it will actually launch, instead of just community speculation.

The 0.60 – 2.60 era was under the developers Meian and Ragn0r. It lasted less than a month, from 2004-02-03 to 2004-03-01. This map was a collection of the most popular DotA variants made using TFT Ancients Defense as a template.
- Based on a combination of:
- TFT Ancients Defense 7.00
- DotA Darkness Falls 10.00
- DotA DX 1.50

The 2.90 – 7.00 era was under the developer GEO, who ported DotA to Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne under the name TFT Ancients Defense. This took place sometime from late 2003 to early 2004, in the span of roughly six months.

The 1.00 – 1.62 era. Released by Eul in late 2002, around December. Runs on a Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos update released late November, so it could not have existed earlier. Of all the Aeon of Strife ports, this one becomes the most popular.
The earliest known versions are 1.4 – 2.0, and are the oldest playable versions of DotA. Released by Eul sometime between August to November 2002.

Look better, feel better — the latest Dota 2 Summer update isn’t about getting a beach bod, but making the game’s experience more enjoyable in a variety of ways.
Valve is implementing a new armory system for those who want a clearer way to view their cosmetics — or buy more. A new behavior score system is also in place, with more severe restrictions placed on toxic players. Plus, more graphic updates are incoming to make the MOBA, going on 13 years, look better than ever.
New cosmetics, reports system, and graphic upgrades
New cosmetics to celebrate summer comes with a new armory system
The armory is now sorted by heroes, letting you easily discover all the item sets the hero has, instead of just displaying the cosmetics you own. This means you can mix, match, and demo items to your liking — and if you take a liking to any of them, can purchase to add to your collection.
The interface has also been cleaned up. Duplicates now take up the same slot instead of repeating in your armory, and you can now highlight specific items and even sort them by market value, if you are looking to buy or sell.
This armory update comes with new cosmetics — a Summer Collector’s Cache featuring complete sets for 16 heroes, including rare sets for Anti-Mage’s Wei Persona, Marci, and Snapfire.

You can be too toxic to pause the game, according to Dota 2’s latest behavior score update
Valve has completely revamped how player behavior works in this game. Commends now give an in-game benefit — commending players you like mean they are more likely to appear in your game, whether as an ally or opponent. A new dislike button will do the opposite, giving you some measure of control over your future teammates.
What if players are more than unpleasant to play with — they are just outright toxic? The new reporting system now consists of six different categories: Toxic Chat, Toxic Voice, Smurfing, Griefing, Cheating and Role Abuse.
You can report these players at any time, instead of it being soft-locked to specific time periods. Report limits have also been removed, letting you truly let loose on toxicity.
These will also provide near-immediate feedback — reported chats will be “analyzed in real-time,” and offending players will immediately lose their voice and text chat privileges.
Players who successfully report others will get a notification about specific bad actors, instead of a generic action has been taken message that has been the norm for years.
Behavior score has now been separated into separate behavior and communication scores, with their caps raised to 12,000, now allow specific privileges to be locked. You’ll need at least 3,000 behavior score to even play ranked, and 5,000 to pause in-game, for example.
Dota 2’s graphic updates is a blast to the past
Dota 2’s graphics are getting another update pass, including particle lighting, shadows, and tone mapping.
Lighting has been generally improved, and new sources of lights like tower attacks will now look vibrant on heroes. Clouds now cast shadows again, and sun shadows are now higher resolution. A new tone map increases contrast in darker regions.
Overall, the game definitely looks better, regaining higher-contrast, saturated look Dota had before the move to Source 2.
