Начало карьеры маньяка с инвертированной мышкой

Первое знакомство швейцарца с CS произошло около 18 лет назад. Тогда он первый раз сыграл в CS Beta 6.5 у двоюродного брата. Уже через несколько лет, когда ему было 13, он, «протащив за собой 250-килограммовый CRT монитор», посетил свой первый ЛАН-турнир. Поговаривают, что свой никнейм Maniac заслужил именно тем, что играл с инвертированной по осям мышкой. К слову, такие настройки у него были вплоть до февраля 2017 года – крайне удивительно для профессионального игрока.

Будучи 13-летним подростком, по его словам, Мэтью ещё не понимал, что компьютерная игра принесёт в его жизнь, а уже в 2007 году Maniac первый раз защищал честь Швейцарии на турнире сборных NationsCup X, который был организован ClanBase. В 2008 году кроме мелких турниров он также сыграл за свою страну на NationsCup и посетил World Cyber Games с командой ARTLEZ.

С конца 2008 года по 2012 год Maniac взял перерыв на учёбу и получил степень магистра в области институциональной и организационной психологии. The Swiss returned to the CS scene in a new discipline — CS:Source. With the Crystal-Serv team, he participated in several tournaments of the Insomnia series.

Team LDLC and first titles

In 2012, CS:GO, justifying its name, began its march through the world of eSports. Matthew with Team eXtensive! took part in the qualifying games for one of the first serious tournaments in the new discipline ESWC 2012 France, in which they lost to the future silver medalists of the main tournament.

In early 2013, Maniac started playing for Team LDLC.com along with fellow players Vincent «Happy» Schopenhauer and Dan «apEX» Madesclair. Together with the new team, Matthew achieved the first serious success, taking first place at the Gamers Assembly 2013 tournament. Before the end of the year, the French five still won several online cups, and at the end of the year, Maniac once again played for the national team of his country at the European Championship.

French superteam Titan

In 2014, Matthew continued to show a solid game as part of Team LDLC.com, and after winning DreamHack Valencia 2014, rumors spread that big changes in the roster were coming to the French CS:GO scene. Kevin “Ex6TenZ” Droulans, France’s best captain, was putting together what was then called the French superteam, and Maniac, along with apEX, received invitations to join it. It was difficult to refuse such an offer, the team received sponsorship from overseas and began performing under the tag Titan.

At the very first serious DreamHack Invitational II Titan in the French derby, they defeated Matthew’s previous team, Team LDLC.com, in the final, and won the champion title. Over the next year and a half, as part of Titan Maniac, he won several tournaments and many more times stopped a step away from the title.

The team could not beat their sworn enemies from fnatic in any way and tried to solve the problem by changing the roster. In September 2015, Titan once again lost in the group stage to fnatic and failed to qualify from the group stage at the ESL ESEA Pro League Invitational. As a result of subsequent reshuffles, Maniac left the team.

Return to Team LDLC. com and retirement

After leaving Titan, Matthew played in several bands, including the international bands Rogue and Millenium, without much staying anywhere, with which he did not achieve any significant results. In addition, Maniac tried himself as a coach of Team EnVyUs, but after a couple of months he realized that he wanted to continue playing as a professional player.

In February 2017, Maniac reunited with Ex6TenZ in the updated roster of Team LDLC.com. The new line-up of the team did not claim the highest places and rather belonged to tier-3 teams. Among the achievements, we can highlight the victory at Paris Games Week as part of the Esports World Convention 2017. In the current ESL Pro League Season 7 Team LDLC.com took the last 14th place, and the next season will start in a lower division.

According to Maniac, the decision to end his career as a professional player was «very emotional and deliberate.» He specifically thanked his teammates and the organization LDLC, whose colors he defended for most of his career.
